Portland RSL has its sight set on a sustainable future, following its official amalgamation with Bathurst RSL and the launch of a $1.5 million renovation project.

The decision to amalgamate, according to Portland RSL general manager Bree McManus, was a strategic move to strengthen both clubs amid a changing industry landscape.

“The decision to amalgamate Portland and Bathurst RSL was the result of careful consideration and collaboration between the two clubs,” she said.

“As the industry continues to evolve with increasing regulatory complexity and changing member expectations, both clubs recognised the opportunity to join forces.”

According to McManus, amalgamating with Bathurst RSL was a natural fit given the long-standing relationship between the two clubs built on similar goals and responsibilities.

“Bathurst RSL has been a leader in providing exceptional services, fostering community engagement, and ensuring financial stability, all of which aligned perfectly with Portland’s strategic goals,” she said.

“By merging, we are combining the best of both clubs, allowing Portland RSL to benefit from Bathurst’s established strength while enhancing the services we offer to our members.”

For Portland members, the move signals growth and improved offerings.

“The future of Portland RSL is incredibly exciting!” McManus said.

“Through this amalgamation, we will have access to greater resources, improved facilities, and expanded services, which will directly benefit our members.

“This means more events, enhanced amenities, and a better overall club experience. The amalgamation ensures that Portland RSL will continue to be a strong community hub, actively supporting veterans, their families, and our broader local community.”

Part of Portland Club’s future also includes a major renovation of its facilities.

“Renovating Portland RSL Club is part of a broader vision to enhance the member experience and future-proof our facilities,” McManus said.

“We understand that in order to remain a dynamic and thriving community hub, we must adapt to the changing needs of our members.”

Key improvements will include a new bar, upgraded female, male and accessible toilets, and a refreshed TAB area.

Work officially began on 26 May and will roll out in stages to minimise disruption. The first stage, including the new bar and female and accessible toilets, is due for completion by mid-September, with the final stage expected to wrap up by the end of October.

Portland RSL has partnered with Denton Projects to deliver the $1.5 million revamp.

“The renovations will ensure that our facilities are not only modernised but also more functional, accessible, and inviting for everyone who walks through our doors,” McManus said.

“By investing in these upgrades, we are reaffirming our commitment to providing the best possible environment for members, visitors, and the wider community to enjoy, now and in the future.”
