Moorebank Sports Club, otherwise affectionately known as Sporties, has finalised the land purchase at Hammondville Park, marking what the club has described as a “monumental step in securing the club’s long-term future”.
With the acquisition complete, Sporties has added nearly 17,000 square metres of land to its lot, and is no longer landlock, holding on the potential for the club to pursue its expansion plans.
“This is a landmark day for Moorebank Sports Club and the wider community. We’ve secured the future of Sporties and created the opportunity to grow with our members and meet the needs of our local area,” Sporties chairman Frank Griffin said.
“Thank you to Liverpool City Council for recognising the value in this opportunity, to our members for their continued support, and to the Board and Management for their efforts in bringing this vision to life.”
The club has been in discussions with the local council about purchasing the land since the second half of last year.
Although the purchase price was not disclosed, the formal sale agreement for the land, which includes part of the Moorebank Sports and Hammondville Park carpark, was signed by the club and Liverpool City Council.
Planning with consultants and architects are now underway to explore future development opportunities, including the expansion of its current venue to incorporate meeting and event spaces, more restaurants, family facilities, and additional entertainment offerings, including an indoor sports playground for adults and kids that will feature batting cages, golf bays, and interactive darts.
The club assured the development will “ensure ample parking and will work closely with sporting codes to design facilities that meet the needs of both players and members alike”.
The good news comes as Sporties recently completed its $6 million renovation that saw the club reconfigure its space so that there was better flow between its indoor and outdoor spaces.
