Construction of a new multimillion dollar Seacliff Golf Course clubhouse in South Australia is now underway, nearly 20 years after the original clubhouse was demolished for safety reasons.

Since knocking down the original clubhouse, the members of the golf course have had to make do with a temporary transportable building for a clubhouse, which has been a barrier for the golf course to grow its membership.

“For nearly 20 years our local golfers have had to make do with a one-room ‘temporary’ clubhouse,” City of Marion Mayor Kris Hanna said.

“It’s time we gave them a brand new clubhouse for both members and visitors to enjoy.

“Importantly, it’s not an elitist club – it’s a true community club, allowing people from all walks of life and varying degrees of golfing ability to enjoy the game.”

To be built in the same spot as the previously demolished facility, the Seacliff Golf Course redevelopment will include a new clubroom and pro-shop building, landscaping improvements as well as a new car park. Improving water supply to the course will also be made to ensure it remains a sustainable public golf course for years to come.

“The club is really excited about this project kicking off and what it will do for our members, but more importantly the wider community,” Marion Park Golf Club president Simon Young said.

“It will really put us on the map.”

Established in 1980 and formerly known as Marion Golf Park, the Seacliff Golf Course will soon be renamed to the Seacliff Golf Course and Seacliff Golf Club. It is most famous for its views of Adelaide’s coastline across nine holes.

Approximately 15,000 rounds of golf are played on the course every year. The local council anticipates this number could increase up to 25,000 rounds with the upgraded facilities, which are expected to be completed by mid-2025.
