Club York has announced that its premises on York Street in Sydney CBD has started major refurbishment.

In a letter to club members, CEO Angus Rimmer detailed the club’s plans for the refurbishment, which will cost approximately $8.5 million.

“We have carefully considered all aspects of this project and believe it will transform Club York into an exceptional venue for our current members while appealing to a broader market, sustaining our future success,” he said.

“Club York recognises the competitive landscape of the food and beverage industry in our location, situated in the CBD of an international tourism destination city, we also see an amazing opportunity to be a part of the reinvigoration of the Sydney CBD.

“Our ultimate goal remains steadfast: to provide a quality service, product, and experience to all patrons while remaining affordable and competitive.”

Working with Paynter Dixon and Loop Creative, Club York will carry out the project in several stages. Rimmer explained as part of stage one, Bar 99 and the reception on ground floor will be closed. This will make way for an updated reception area, a new central bar that will serve as a focal point of the club, as well as a new club lounge area that will exude a warm and sophisticated ambiance.

A new-look reception will greet guests.

Following this, all gaming facilities will be relocated from level one to the ground floor, which according to Rimmer will “deliver an overall enhancement in the club’s layout and functionality”. Housed within the new gaming room will be an alfresco area at the front to cater both gaming and non-gaming patrons.

On level one, the club’s existing outdoor gaming area will be repurposed into an alfresco dining space.

“This revamped space will offer a welcoming alfresco dining and bar experience, complete with comfortable lounge and dining areas and multiple screens for sporting events,” Rimmer said.

“These upgrades will extend to the club’s entertainment room, The Red Room, which will receive cosmetic and technological enhancements. This will better position us to provide a higher quality and frequency of entertainment offerings.”

Comfortable lounges and dining areas will complete the updated look on level one.

These updates follow the club’s recently completed Primi Bar that was introduced to the club’s Primi Italian restaurant.

Club York’s refurbishment project is anticipated to be completed by late January 2025.
