The Blue Fin Fishing Club, Australia’s largest fishing club in Brisbane’s southwest suburb of Inala, has unveiled a fresh look following four months of renovations.

Blue Fin Fishing Club general manager Peter Purins explained the revamp was prompted to meet the changing needs of the local community. The club’s last major renovation was in 2011.

“We like to make sure our offerings reflect the needs of our community. The median age of Inala is 34, with many young families now looking for a place they can bring their kids for a day out. Our renovations were designed with these peoplae in mind, as well as to keep the club fresh and modern for our current members,” he told Club Management.

“When looking at renovations it’s important to understand that it’s not just about replacing the old with new – ask what I can do with the area to increase member benefits and to break down each area and add inclusions that reflect this.”

As part of the renovations, which set the club back $2.7 million, a new family lounge and play area have been introduced, as well as more natural lighting, modern fixtures, and a modern colour scheme. The bistro also underwent a complete refurbishment.

Sound tiles were installed in the TAB area to ensure those watching races can enjoy it loud and clear, without travelling out of the designated area.

Purins added the old club faced challenges with inefficient use of space, which been rectified because of the revamp.

“In the new club, we’ve optimised every area, allowing us to offer more to our community by eliminating wasted floor space and adding a whole new section, including the family lounge and a new outdoor children’s play area,” he said.

“The renovations have also brought improvements for both staff and customers. The redesigned bistro counter and bar are more efficient, reducing the walking distance for staff, while the lower bar and cutouts enable faster, more effortless service.”

The club worked with Inaspace Architecture and Design and Paynters on the renovation.

The club is also currently making changes to its fishing lounge and Keno area. The club is also planning to carry out its next stage of work in August 2025.

“’Til then, we are out fishing,” as the club’s marketing coordinator Donnelle Brooks put it.
