Dr Christina Curry, a non-executive director of ClubsNSW and The Randwick Club Group, has been recognised as an outstanding community leader and inspirational Local Government practitioner in the 2022 Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government.
Dr Christina Curry, who is also the first female Mayor of Bayside Council in Sydney’s south-east, was announced as the winner of the Elected Representative Award in the Metro Division of the 2022 Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government by the NSW Minister for Local Government, Wendy Tuckerman and the Minister for Women, Bronnie Taylor.
“I am truly humbled and honoured to have been awarded the 2022 Ministers’ Award for Women in Local Government – Metropolitan Elected,” Dr Curry said. “There are so many people I need to thank who support me and allow me to do what I do. My support network and my Bayside community motivate me to keep striving to make a difference!”
The Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government are a chance to recognise female councillors and council staff who make invaluable contributions to improve the lives of the people they represent and serve.
Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the annual Awards celebrate women setting an example of excellence in public service.
“Today’s Award winners demonstrate the essential role women play in making our communities better places to live and work,” she said. “These women are not only high-achievers, they are role models for anyone interested in a career in local government and I congratulate them all on their achievements.”
The awards were established in 2008 to recognise the outstanding efforts of women at the grassroots level of government in metropolitan and regional/rural councils.
Dr Curry has 25 years’ experience in the education sector and has held numerous leadership roles, including Transforming Teaching Champion, Academic Director, Western Sydney International College and Director of Secondary Education at Western Sydney University. She is also a researcher and senior lecturer in Health; Physical Education and Wellbeing.
Dr Curry also has extensive experience in governance from her roles as Chair of Bayside Women’s Shelter and with Clubs NSW and Director of the Randwick Club Group which includes The Randwick Club, Randwick Bowling Club and Coogee Beach Club.
