Sunnybank Community Sports Club (SCSC) has kicked off a major $9.5 million renovation to transform the club and the adjoining Sunnybank Rugby Union precinct.

The club has set aside $7.5 million to completely overhaul its clubhouse, which will include giving its Sunset Bar and Grill a makeover with expanded seating, premium table service, and a new alfresco area. A new steak menu and a specialty cocktail list will also be launched to complement the new-look space.

The cafe will also be upgraded with a refreshed layout and contemporary setting to make way for live entertainment and events. Meanwhile, the sports bar will be transformed into a pizza space with “tech-driven” sports bar featuring a giant LED sports wall, TAB, and Keno terminals.

Additionally, the kids play area will become an interactive playground with creative spaces adjacent to the new alfresco area.

In addition to the front-of-house updates, other additional upgrades will include improved staff facilities, commercial kitchen upgrades, and a new administration area and meeting rooms.

“This is about more than just bricks and mortar – it’s about creating a vibrant future for our members, families, and the broader Sunnybank community,” SCSC general manager operations David Turner said.

“We’ve listened to our community and are investing in the spaces people love while creating new experiences to attract the next generation and honour our long-time members. The new-look club will elevate every visit – whether you’re here for a meal, a game, entertainment or a celebration – without interrupting the experience you already enjoy.”

The club assured that while the renovation takes place, there will be no disruptions to gaming, the cafe, or its performing arts and cultural centre, SunPAC.

The renovation will complement the $2 million redevelopment currently underway at the Sunnybank Rugby Union precinct. Upgrades include a fully revamped clubhouse and layout, new changerooms to support increased female participation, outdoor decking, a new container bar, and upgrade barbeque facilities. The redevelopment follows the opening of the precinct’s new gym last December.

“This redevelopment is about more than enhancing facilities – it’s about investing in our people, our culture, and the role we play in the broader Sunnybank community. Our vision is to create an environment where sport, hospitality, and connection thrive side by side,” Sunnybank Rugby Union chairman John Miller said.

“These upgrades will future-proof our precinct while honouring the club’s proud legacy.”

The SCSC clubhouse renovation is slated to be completed by November 2025, while the rugby redevelopment is on track for completion in June 2025.
