Ocean Grove Bowling club has commenced its $6 million redevelopment project in a bid to remain relevant and respond to evolving member and community needs.

As part of the project, the club will deliver a state-of-the-art 16-rink undercover bowling facility, comprising two eight-rink greens, which is on track to be completed by August 2025.

The new build will also feature two expansive 4.5-metre-wide video screens, livestreaming capabilities, and unobstructed views of the greens from the clubhouse. The structure, which is predominantly enclosed, ensures year-round play in all weather conditions, while the expanded car park improves accessibility for members and visitors.

“With these upgrades, we are set to solidify our position as the largest bowls and entertainment precinct in regional Victoria, offering world-class facilities for both competitive play and community events,” CEO Nathan O’Neill said.

This latest redevelopment builds on the club’s 70-year history and aligns with the club’s mantra – ‘Let’s put Ocean Grove on the map’ – which was created by the club’s first formed sub-committee in 1952.

“This mantra championed the creation of a bowling club that would serve as a vital asset to Ocean Grove — both as a growing township and a popular holiday destination. Today, this vision remains at the heart of everything we do, guiding our commitment to advancing our identity, purpose, and activities,” O’Neill said.

He explained how in 2023, the club’s board, leadership team, and members developed a five-year strategic plan to shape the club’s future.

“A key pillar of this plan, ‘Progress Through Innovation’, focuses on enhancing our infrastructure and systems to meet the needs of current and future generations,” O’Neill said.

“With this redevelopment, we have a unique opportunity to create a vibrant, modern meeting place, and one that connects people in new ways and positions our members at the centre of the venue experience.”

According to O’Neill, the new precinct will serve as a vibrant hub for bowls, entertainment, and community connection, ensuring it remains a valuable asset for generations to come.

“We are committed to further enhancing our local and national profile by establishing ourselves as a premier destination for major events. This focus will not only boost tourism but also drive positive economic growth within the community,” he said.

“On a local level, we aim to take on a leadership role within the community, delivering on our purpose of enhancing social engagement, wellbeing, and active lifestyles through the power of sport, and partnering with local community and sporting groups, school curriculums, and local businesses.”
