CMNL, the group behind Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL, has put Camperdown Commons on the market, citing “business prioritisation” as the reason for the divestment.
“In accordance with a review of our strategic plans, the Board is considering a range of options at Camperdown Commons including a potential divestment of the Camperdown Commons business by way of a sale to a new operator and, ultimately, an assignment of the lease,” CMNL CEO Dean Thomas confirmed.
“Importantly, at this stage no decision has been made as it relates to the future operations of the Camperdown Commons site.
“At this stage, it is business as usual. We remain committed to the Camperdown Commons site and our obligations under the Lease with Inner West Council.”
Located in Sydney’s inner west, Camperdown Common sits on a large 3,781sqm landholding within the heart of Camperdown. It is home to a 350-seat dining space, large commercial kitchen, a public bar, undercover deck area, as well as multiple function spaces. There is also a sizable community market garden, which is currently operated by Pocket City Farms via licence agreement until June 2026.
JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group has been appointed to market the venue, with hospitality brokers Greg Jeloudev and Edward Browne leading the sale campaign.
According to JLL, presents opportunities for repositioning, such as integrating a paddock-to-plate concept or incorporating the market garden into the hospitality offering.
“Camperdown Commons is a sizable leasehold hospitality venue that enjoys an immediate and diversified trade catchment from a loyal community,” Jeloudev said.
“Rarely do we see a venue with such operating scale come to market in the inner west, as such we are expecting strong interest from established hospitality groups and proximal private operators alike”.
JLL also highlighted the surrounding area’s ongoing urban renewal, with increased residential development and commercial growth making it an attractive investment.
“There exists substantial ESG benefits for an incoming operator with the current business having specific community centric operational requirements,” JLL added.
“This includes creating spaces and programs to promote wellbeing and to ensure the venue can be easily utilised by all members of the Inner West community. There is also scope to incorporate a hospitality training facility as part of a broader offering.”
Camperdown Commons is offered for sale via Expressions of Interest, closing 15 April 2025 at 12pm, if not sold prior. All interested parties are encouraged to contact the appointed JLL agents.
During the listing period, Thomas assured that users of Camperdown Commons can “expect normal operations throughout this period”.
