International Women’s Day (IWD) is fast approaching on Saturday 8 March, and it’s the perfect opportunity for clubs to reflect on the vital role they play in supporting and celebrating women.
At Revesby Workers’ Club, International Women’s Day has become a flagship event on the calendar. This year, the club is hosting its IWD celebration in its newly renovated Whitlam Theatre, in partnership with Leagues Australia.
The event features guest speakers from diverse backgrounds, including ClubsNSW chair, Netball NSW president, and Bayside Women’s Shelter general manager Sallianne Faulkner, junior motocross racer Grace Rowe, and comedian and L.A. Donuts owner Frida Deguise.
Importantly, the event is also a fundraiser for Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter, with raffle proceeds and donations supporting women escaping domestic violence and homelessness. Last year, the club raised over $24,000 for Biyani House. More details can be found here.

Similarly, in the nation’s capital, Canberra Southern Cross Club together with Share the Dignity will host a special fundraiser dinner on Saturday 8 March to celebrate the incredible women who shape its community. Federal MPs Alicia Payne and Fiona Carrick will join the night to recognise the contributions of women and the importance of continued progress toward gender equality.
Meanwhile, the Australian Women’s Golf Network is hosting IWD events across the country, including at Melbourne’s Kingston Health Golf Club and Victoria Park in Brisbane.
On Sydney Harbour, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia is inviting female members and guests for a twilight sailing session, offering a chance to try something new, no experience required, before joining the clubhouse celebrations.
Down in Victoria, Community Clubs Victoria and Pegasus Leisure Group are hosting sold-out Women in Clubs brunch in honour of IWD. It’ll be a morning of connection, inspiration, and celebration of the women and the contribution they make to the clubs industry.
With 2025 marking 30 years since the United Nations’ Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – a global commitment to advancing gender equality – it’s not too late to organise your own club event and #MarchForward for gender equality. This year’s International Women’s Day theme #AccelerateAction calls on all of us to step up and drive change.
