St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, together with Cleanaway business Scanline, has launched the Vinnies Used Cooking Oil Recycling (VUCOR) scheme, designed to provide funding for Vinnies’ charitable work.
As part of the scheme, which is open to all restaurants in NSW, Scanline will contribute a charitable rebate to Vinnies for every litre of oil, and venues will continue to receive their current rebates for waste collection. Oil collected through the VUCOR scheme will be processed, recycled, and sent for further manufacturing to be turned into renewable fuel and animal stock feed in NSW.
Club Five Dock RSL has been named as one of a handful of Sydney hospitality venues that are early adopters of the scheme.
Club Five Dock RSL CEO David Conway told Club Management how the initiative not only aligns with the club’s sustainability strategy, but also it’s philanthropic efforts.
“It fits in with where we want to go with sustainability, and if we can help out those that are less fortunate, we thought, why not?” he said.
He added that the scheme fitted in what the club has been doing for a long time, which is recycling cooking oil with Scanline.
“We saw tremendous value in the initiative of recycling used cooking oil locally, especially with Scanline offering support to Vinnies without any extra expense to us,” he said.
“As a club, we constantly seek opportunities to contribute to our local community, making the decision to participate straightforward. Following internal discussions, it was unanimously agreed to also donate the club’s own rebate to Vinnies through this program, enhancing their efforts even further.”
