Clubs for Community, the club industry’s domestic and family violence (DFV) prevention committee, has launched its ‘It Stops Now’ initiative, a program aimed at creating communities free from DFV.

The registered clubs industry is taking a leading role in addressing domestic and family violence, uniting clubs across Australia to advocate, educate, and collaborate on this critical issue. There are approximately 60 clubs across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and the ACT that are part of the committee.

Clubs for Community said its mission is to “unify the registered club industry to drive lasting change by increasing awareness, providing essential resources, and fostering meaningful engagement”.

“Clubs for Community’s ‘It Stops Now’ is more than just an initiative – it is a commitment to the safety and well-being of our communities,” said Arely Carrion, Mounties Group community engagement manager and the person who has been spearheading the industry’s initiative against DFV.

Through ‘It Stops Now’, Clubs for Community will lead advocacy and awareness campaigns within clubs and the broader community. It will also work with local government, law enforcement, and DFV services to drive tangible change.

“Partnerships with DFV violence services will create robust support pathways, including safe spaces within clubs for victims. Participation in national DFV awareness events and local outreach programs will strengthen community connections and enhance awareness,” the committee stated.

Training workshops will also be offered to club management, staff, and members, equipping them with the skills to recognise signs of abuse and respond effectively. The committee will also develop educational resources and promote Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) for confidential support.

“By standing together, we can create a future where domestic and family violence is no longer tolerated, and every club becomes a beacon of hope and support,” Carrion said.

Approximately 60 clubs from across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and the ACT now make up the committee.
