Wests Cardiff has opened its new brewery which features exposed copper piping leading to a custom-built fermentation vessels room, set alongside a wide-open space of tables and booths, a games room with arcade games, pool tables and darts for patrons.
While the Hunter Vallery region is already well-known for its wineries, the area is fast becoming a hub for beer, as Wests Cardiff joins several other small-batch craft breweries in the district.
The club said building partners Skelcon Pty Ltd and architects EJE Architecture had successfully brought not only the history of Cardiff to life but also a cool modern vibe for locals to hang out.
Cardiff Brewery’s logo pays tribute to the past, incorporating the area’s rich history in each element, including the names Tickhole Tunnel and Winding Creek, both significant connections to Newcastle’s railway heritage. There is also Mr Peattie’s Place, named after the plentiful fruit orchards of Mr Peattie who farmed land bordering the Great Northern Railway Line.
Entering through the archways, patrons follow copper pipes to the space and can settle in for craft brews and entertainment on the massive 7.2m x 2m big screen. The Cardiff Brewery menu caters to small or large gatherings from pizzas to chicken wings, which the club says is perfect for both an afternoon snack or dinner with mates.
Behind the brews at Cardiff Brewery is Pete Merrington, who has been busy concocting a range of craft beers onsite. Merrington will be bringing a variety of flavours to the venue and is working with the brew team to bring taste-testing events to the club’s 2023 calendar.
